Beautiful, simply beautiful. Lord of Darkness was my first book by
Elizabeth Hoyt and I regret not reading her books earlier. Her style of
writing is magnificent. The storytelling is enchanting and captivating,
capturing the heart and soul of the characters like no other.
When Lady Margaret Reading returns to London and a man she has not seen since her wedding day, she is there for two reasons. One, she wants a child and hopes that her older husband will provide her with one. The other, she wants to kill the Ghost of St. Giles who she believes is responsible for her ex-fiancee's death.
Both of these characters were stunning. Godric, the brooding wounded emotionally broken hero, and Meg make one of the most fascinating couples I have had the pleasure of reading about in a long time. I was thoroughly enchanted by Elizabeth Hoyt's writing. Lord of Darkness had parts that were so emotional, so gut wrenching that it was hard not to fall in love with both Meg and Godric. Both of the characters had lost the loves of their lives, and their struggle to deal with their forced marriage was so raw and real, it left me aching for their happy ending.
Meg has lost her fiancee, all she wants is a baby and revenge. Godric lost a wife, and is unable to surrender his heart nor his bed to another woman. Both are struggling with a very deep feeling of remorse when the wall of their hearts begin to crumble. Once Meg finds out Godric's secret, it becomes harder not to care about the man and everything he stands for. It becomes especially hard not to let him into her heart and life. The attraction between Meg and Godric was undeniable, fueled by desire and danger.
Lord of Darkness was a wonderful fix for my historical needs, with a compelling storyline, and emotional deep characters that makes this book hard to put down. A pure blissful treasure. I will be looking forward to revisiting all the books I have missed by this wonderful author.
