Summary
from Goodreads:
Quirky
and clumsy twenty-two-year-old Paige Crawford arrives in London on a
cold Saturday in January. Just when Paige starts to think that moving
thousands of miles away from home with no real plan was a bad idea,
Jason Frost appears. Confident and classy, Jason is the complete
opposite of Paige and just what she needs in her life, or so she
thinks.
But before their romance has time to blossom, Paige trips and falls into the arms of a mysterious man on a drunken night out. She’s snapped by paparazzi, and newspaper headlines the next day suggest that she’s having an affair with a married footballer.
Paige finds herself instantly elevated to tabloid celebrity status which isn’t exactly a picnic, particularly when trying to juggle her new job at Fashionista magazine, a catalog of dating disasters and a nagging doubt that she maybe she can’t conquer London after all.
When a trip back to Canada for Christmas reminds Paige why she left her old life behind, she returns to London with renewed vigor realizing that while jobs, flats and men may come and go, friends in London are forever.

When a trip back to Canada for Christmas reminds Paige why she left her old life behind, she returns to London with renewed vigor realizing that while jobs, flats and men may come and go, friends in London are forever.
Paige Crawford takes a huge step in life when she moves thousand of miles away from her Canada home to London, where on her first dreary day she runs into Jason Frost while picking up her not so attractive underwear off the ground.
Paige has no idea what awaits her in London and just the type of crowd she got herself into to. But no sooner then allowing her new relationship to blossom, she accidentally trips while drunk and fall into a very famous athlete coming out of a club. The next thing Paige knows is that she is suddenly all over magazines and news as being a home-wrecker and the chain of events that follow only seem to escalate and are blown out of proportion.
Cute story, really had me laughing most of the time. Paige stumbles through her new London life with mistakes that she slowly learns how to fix. She has a couple of really strange and crazy roommates, living in a run down house on a used mattress. Has a terrible luck with finding love and a relationship, and keeps getting into bad situations that bring her back to the spotlight.
Thought it has some cliches, and unbelievable unrealistic moments. A couple of really funny jokes (taking tips from a magazine how to be sexy in bed? did not go so well in Paiges case) and odd jokes (bad teeth?). The Accidental Socialite is a book I still found hard to put down. Paige was amusing, funny and loud. She speaks her mind and isn't afraid of it. I felt both sad and happy for her, depending on how things went. I didn't like any of the men she found herself with, especially not Jason.
The trips that Paige took cross-country were fun and exciting. Filled with lots and lots of champagne and drinking. I don't think my liver has ever been so sympathetic towards a book character.
But the ending I felt was rewarding, and I love the message that Stephanie has left behind for us girls.
About
the Author
Growing
up in Edmonton, Canada, a significant amount of Stephanie’s time
was spent making up and acting out stories. She was studying to be an
actress when she realized there weren’t any parts for women being
written. So, Stephanie wrote herself a short screenplay just to be in
it, and quickly realized that writing was her true passion. She
graduated from the University of Alberta with an English and
Sociology degree and she also has a Bachelor of Motion Picture Arts
from Red Deer College. After a fateful trip to Mexico in 2006,
Stephanie decided to move to New York City to work in film
development. A year later she went back home to write My
Green House,
a factual TV series. Stephanie moved to London in 2008 and aside from
being obsessed with eggs benedict, fruit roll- ups and travelling,
she also works in children’s television. The
Accidental Socialite is
her first novel.

DeleteGreat review, Lily! This sounds like a lot of fun even with the unbelievable bits! I'm with you on the drinking in books. I'm totally not opposed to drinking. Love my margaritas & beer, but sometimes the amounts in books are over the top and I get nauseated just thinking about it. Whiskey especially! Yuck, hate that stuff. Champagne doesn't strike me as a good drink to over indulge on either. One glass usually gives me a headache, lol! :)
ReplyDeletelol I don't think I would ever be able to over indulge on Champagne. I can see drinking it like during a small part once or twice to toast..but that's too fizzy to drink a lot of.
DeleteI love formula stories like this, it may be predictable or what but it's a guaranteed good time.
