Summary from Goodreads
Zombies, killer dresses, and ancient curses prove that Halloween in Threadville can be sew spooky…
It’s early October, and hordes of visitors have descended on the tiny, celebrated village of Threadville, Pennsylvania, to attend a Halloween crafts fair, a zombie retreat, and the wedding of Edna Battersby—dear friend to Willow Vanderling, owner of the chic machine embroidery boutique, In Stitches.
As a friendly prank for Edna’s wedding, Willow and the rest of the Threadville gang have fashioned an overly extravagant hoopskirt, complete with lights and music. But in a bizarre turn of events, the garish gown is implicated in a mysterious lakeside murder.
Now Willow must follow a trail of glow-in-the-dark thread, delve into ancient Egyptian curses, and creep through a haunted graveyard to unearth a killer—before she becomes the next fashion victim…

The zombie convention is here in Threadville, but so is the wedding for Edna Battersby. It's early October and Willow Vanderling has a lot going on her plate right now. With her friends wedding just around the corner, Willow and the local shop owners come together to design a special surprise wedding gift for their dear friend Edna. Too bad that the extravagant hoopskirt that lot put together ends up implicated in a murder when they pull a woman dress in it out of local lake.
Not to mention with everything that's going on, she ends up with a very annoying house guest forced on her by her very own mother. Now Willow finds it hard not to get herself involved, especially when some of the clues end up leading the detectives straight to her back door.
Interest addition to the Threadville Mystery series. The author seems to know a lot about embroidery and it's full of details in the book. Honestly it felt a little too much sometimes for someone that knows nothing about it, but it was interesting! It was pleasant to see all the details and the knowledge about the instruments and such surrounding embroidery and how the author used it in the book and had the character solve the clues.
I found Willows house guest very annoying and quiet frankly she made the book difficult to read at times. The girl was downright mean, rude, and I did not understand her anger and resentment towards Willow - I did not feel what her excuse was justified that. I also wish Willow would stand up to her mother more often, so I hope to see growth there. The woman doesn't look like she has Willow's interest best at heart but all for herself. I know Willow wants to make her mother happy but really... taking on a guest that made her life miserable during the stay did not seem to be worth it. Nor the way her mother talks to her on the phone.
Great mystery was exciting, filled with Zombies, curses, details and fun characters. Was an interesting read and I am looking forward for more of Willow.

An annoying house guest that even annoyed the reader? Yikes! I don't think I would love this one either but it sounds like the rest wasn't so bad.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the honest review!
Sounds good to me :)
ReplyDeleteI confess I think I would have wanted to see Willow stands against her mother too. It sounds like an ok one.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm gonna pass on this one. I've added a lot of cozies to my TBR recently, and I don't often read them. That in conjunction with ZOMBIES, and well . . . ;) But I'm glad you liked it (despite the annoying house guest).

This seems like a neat series, and a good installment. I would probably be annoyed by the house guest and mom also.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review!
Oh that guest sounds horrid! Rough when a secondary character like that makes the read a bit less enjoyable. It sounds fun though. I love the zombie convention thrown in. How funny!
ReplyDeleteHaha, now this sounds fun and cute. :) Thank you for sharing!
