Summary from Goodreads
Twelve. Twelve of the deadliest beasts ever forged in the fires of hell have escaped onto our plane, and they want nothing more than to rip out the jugular of Charley Davidson and serve her lifeless, mangled body to Satan for dinner. So there’s that. But Charley has more on her plate than a mob of testy hellhounds. For one thing, her father has disappeared, and the more she retraces his last steps, the more she learns he was conducting an investigation of his own, one that has Charley questioning everything she’s ever known about him. Add to that an ex-BFF who is haunting her night and day, a rash of suicides that has authorities baffled, and a drop-dead sexy fiancĂ© who has attracted the attentions of a local celebrity, and Charley is not having the best week of her life.
A tad north of hell, a hop, skip, and a jump past the realm of eternity, is a little place called Earth, and Charley Davidson, grim reaper extraordinaire, is determined to do everything in her power to protect it.
We’re doomed.

Oh my goodness! I was so excited when I opened up a package and found
the next installment of Charley Davidson series staring back at me, that
I might have made my husbands ears bleed. Seriously, that excited!
Charley is back in a whole next chapter of her life, and boy did this chapter put a spin on her life. With the twelve hounds of hell chasing her and wanting nothing more than to shred her to little pieces, Charley can't just ignore her other duties when they are thrown at her. Ah, the life of a grim reaper. Now she must do it all without her favorite coffee to keep her going, and a very sexy, dark and dangerous fiancé who insists on following her every move. You know, for protection.
I absolutely love this series! Charley is just amazing. I love her sense of humor and how she takes everything in stride. Her personality is both endearing and amusing. I love that she is so human, despite knowing that she is so much more. Well, as she slowly learns more about her powers and heritage, her ego hasn't yet exploded out of the pages, which is a good thing. I enjoy how the story has progressed, how Charley herself has progressed. Her growth both in her character and conquering her abilities - even thought at times it felt like she learns them too quickly after getting frustrated that everyone else just tells her to do it.
I also love that each book kind of picks up from where the other one left over. So we don't have a large space of time missing at the beginning that we wait to see what happened between the first incident and present day.
Charley's friends and side-kicks are always just as amusing and fun. I love Cookie, I think she is an awesome best friend with a lot of heart and her relationship with Charley's uncle Bob is so cute. Swoopes will always be one of my favorite characters and I am so glad that he is a regular part of Charley's life, more so now. The Dealer is an interesting addition, and as much as Charley trusts him, I am with Reyes on this one - I feel like he will have quiet a role in the end either in Charley's life or Beeps ;) As well as Amber, who suddenly seems more important than just being the daughter of Charley's best friend.
Charley is also being haunted by her ex-best friend who made her life a living hell when her and Charley were children. Adding to the ever-growing headache piled on top of everything and you got the day in life of Charley the grim reaper extraordinaire.
Oh and don't forget Reyes.. Can never forget Reyes. I am so excited he is now a more regular addition. He is just... I love him. His character is amazing, and I have a feeling he too will play a huge part and as things unfold in the book they leave me with lots of questions and guesses where this is all going to go.
Darynda Jones doesn't disappoint. Her books are a great comfort to me and I always find myself devouring each piece of Charley Davidson series. I enjoy her writing and her characters and so very excited for the next part to this series. Now I don't know if it's just me thinking, but it looks like she might actually be setting up the entire series for a spin-off, unless the series plans to skip a couple of years into the future. But this is Jones we are talking about. No matter what she chooses. I know I will be following Davidson until the end.

DeleteI totally sympathized with Charley having to quit coffee in this installment, I had to do so for a month a while back, and it was BRUTAL.
