Stolen Moon by Kimber Leigh Wheaton
(Light Chronicles #2)

Publication date: August 19th 2014
Genres: Fantasy, Romance,
Young Adult

Summary from Goodreads

Katarina ~ a Royal Knight bound by honor and duty who steals a powerful relic from a sorcerer in a desperate attempt to save her kingdom from the clutches of a madman.
Ethan ~ a mercenary leader trapped between his growing attraction to Katarina and his responsibility to protect his friends from the evil pursuing her.
Zebulon ~ a malicious sorcerer waging war as though it’s a game, caring nothing for the lives he destroys in his quest for power.
Drawn together by a moonstone medallion—an indestructible relic with immense magical power.
Katarina steals the medallion from Zebulon and flees in the dead of night. Together with Ethan and his mercenaries, she struggles to stay one step ahead of the sorcerer and his minions in a race against time to save her homeland. Fierce battles, ravenous monsters, and bloodthirsty brigands—those are no surprise. But Katarina never dreamed her greatest obstacle could be falling in love.

Katarina is a Royal Knight who steals a relic from a very powerful sorcerer in order to save her kingdom. Now she is on the quest to return the relic to it's rightful place, but the journey won't be easy. Not with Zebulon doing everything he can to prevent her from completing it. Befriending a couple of mercenaries and a demi-god, Katarina finds her allies in the most unlikely places.

  • An interesting story. The moment I read the blurb I was hooked on the premise. It looked promising and I do like a light fantasy if I can get it. I went into this story unsure what to expect. I am not familiar with this author or her writing. I also did not realize that this is more YA then anything, but that didn't deter me from giving it a shot. The writing itself was wonderful. I think Wheaton has a way with words and it shows in this book. It flows, and it's kind of beautifully written. I was hooked from the very start.
  • If you are looking for a light sweet, YA fantasy, this is it. As far as light goes, I mean it's easy to follow the quest and the journey that Katarina goes through. There is a bit of gore in this book, but not an overwhelming amount.
  • There was some confusions for me in the story. I couldn't remember who sent Katarina to meet Ethan and I was a bit confused on why they trusted him because if not for the insta-love that happened between them, Ethan did not look very trust worthy at first or at least his actions that went unimplemented weren't. I don't know the characters ages, especially Vale's, but he seemed awfully young for me judging by his behavior and actions I would have put him at 10-13, but I think the author has him older. Plus the only other female in the group seem to have mood swings towards Katarina, she is nice to her one moment, and completely mean the next. Another thing, the age was really a weird issue because I guess they are teens? So how is she a high ranking knight?
  • Insta-love. I have to sadly say if I knew this book has a bad case of insta-love from the beginning I probably would have avoided it to start with. Nothing frustrates me more then insta-love and this has a bad bug of it. It was so fast and so sickly sweet that I had a really hard time dealing with it. Maybe it's one of those things that gave this book a lower rating. She didn't even know Ethan when she is already all over him kissing him. It was kinda of awkward. I was glad that it dwindled a bit as the book went on.
  • The world. I do like the world the author created. I thought it was kind of original and cool. I liked the setting, the monsters and the magic. I think it added a nice addition to this story making it so much interesting.
  • The action was nice when it happened. The pacing did seem to wary for me. There was a lot of moving, a lot of sleeping, but when the action happened I enjoyed it and I enjoyed the pace. Once again a bit bloody but nothing no one can handle.

If you like a light fantasy filled with lots of romance, magic, an interesting adventure and some very creative writing you should give Stolen Moon a shot. I have not managed to get to book one, but I think the fans of book one might actually really enjoy this one as well.

  2. I usually avoid books with insta-love, too, but I'm glad you enjoyed it in spite some issues. The paranormal world does sound interesting enough.

  3. I do enjoy the occasional light fantasy too - I get lost with epic fantasy though lol. This sounds like an enjoyable, sweet read! Glad you liked it! :)

  4. Yeah, insta love annoys me a bit at times too, I like to see it build nicely. It still sounds like a good YA read though.

  5. Oh insta-love, I have a love hate relationship with it depending on how the book is written.

  8. Oh no, I really have a problem with insta-love, it's too bad because it sounded so good and I loved the cover...

  9. I prefer my fantasy on the light side. I'm okay if they were insta-lusting and kissing, but if they're like 'I'll die for you' after a minute ... then no.

  11. Why can't they just skip the romance? Does every YA fantasy book has to have a romantic plot? This sounds awesome though love story aside

  13. Not a fan of the insta-love but it doesn't sound like it was too bad and I do like the sound of the worldbuilding. Might have to check it out!

  14. A female Knight? Really? That right there is enough to make me want to read this one, Lily! I love stories with knights in them (I'm actually reading the Faerie Queene right now for class) and when there's a strong female in an unconventional role, I'm all over that.
    Thanks for sharing.

  15. A light fantasy sounds inviting. I'm glad the creative writing kept the story flowing despite the insta-love and the places where you got lost. I might check out this one sometime. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Lily.

  16. This sounds like a quick and fun fantasy read. Although insta-love can be tough. I don't mind it, but the author has to make me believe it and this sounds like it could be a tough one. Glad you enjoyed for the most part and great review.

  17. Diving into a series at the second installment is never easy, but it's good that you were still able to get some enjoyment out of the story. I prefer my Fantasy to be on the lighter side, so that aspect definitely appeals to me, as does the female Knight heroine.

  18. Great review!

The aspect of it sounds really good; however, the insta-love part does turn me away a bit. I am just not a fan and it's hard to me to overcome the insta-love if it wasn't done good. But the book does sound good.
